The Council of Independent Community Pharmacy Owners (CICPO) made its first appearance in Newfoundland Supreme Court today to begin its challenge of sections of the Pharmacy Act and regulations.
Justice Richard LeBlanc has scheduled Dec. 2 for a full-day hearing.
At issue is a provision in the act that permits the Pharmacists Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (PANL) to negotiate financial contracts with government on behalf of the independent owners.
CICPO is also challenging a recent amendment to the pharmacy regulations extending the notice pharmacists have to give to opt out of the provincial prescription drug program.

What is the world coming to when the citizens have to take the government to court in order to speak to them. This shows an arrogance and contempt for the citizens of this province which is nothing short of disturbing. The politicians have forgotten they are the employees of the citizens and in a democratic society this means they work for the people not look down upon or dismiss them. Look at the topics in which the government is mute on (fishery) (ship yard) (independent pharmacy owners) these are just a few and there are many more. The people of this province are entering the political equivalent of the other dictatorships in today's world which are in total turmoil. A lot of the members in the present PC government rode in on Danny's coat tails, well Danny is gone and the politicians left ,have to realize as the citizens do that arrogance is usually a mask for insecurity. Thus I am sure most of the present PC members are thinking can I get elected on my own merits and not the love of Danny. I DON'T THINK SO!!!
